Portland Vets describes itself as an independent practice and offers 24-hour onsite inpatient care Monday–Friday (per its website). Based on recent reviews, owners most often mention routine vaccinations for kittens, surgery with ward monitoring and frequent updates (including follow-up calls/messages), and support for longer-term conditions such as kidney disease. There is also a clear conflict in experiences: several reviews describe strong communication and involvement, while one detailed review reports poor communication around tests and a euthanasia decision that happened without the owner present despite prior requests.

We took our kittens here for their second inoculation. The staff were really caring and lovely. We got to the vets early after driving up from Newhaven and there was no problem. They even saw us early. They obviously care about the animals they care for and all seems a happy bunch.

We felt very let down by Portland vets. Initially our cat went in for tests and were advised that these would take 3 hours. We said we would wait but were assured this would not be necessary as we would be kept informed every step of the way. This was not the case. We had stated more than once that we would want to be at Max's passing. At 2 pm we phoned as we had not heard anything, assuming all was well, and was told he was just going in. Half an hour later they phoned to say that they would need to let him go immediately. We have always been with our cats when they had to be put to sleep this was not afforded to Max. If we had realized this we would have stayed to be with Max at the end. He had previously been to the Edenbridge branch where we noticed all but one vet, Liz, were not good at handling cats. A flea treatment was given and ended up in his back and not the neck. The memory of how Max was looked after has left a bad feeling towards your company and we would never recommend your company to anyone.

We recently moved our 2 dogs and 1 cat here after being with another local vet practice for many years, which unfortunately went downhill after being sold. All the staff at Portland we have met are lovely and understanding. The receptionists are so helpful, unlike in our last practice where they were very short-tempered and made you feel like an inconvenience. The vets really take the time to listen to you and give you choices for your pets care. All the vets we have seen have been brilliant, and I have complete confidence in their care/ advice. Our cat was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and Katie was so kind and helpful with her explanations and advice, even taking the time to phone us affter hours to give us test results, and we really feel supported in his treatment going forward. I only wish I had moved my pets across earlier, but very glad we have such an excellent vet locally.

I had to take my 20 year old cat Nori last Wednesday it was a very sad day as she had to be euthanised. Lucy was very kind and compassionate and discussed everything with us. I would recommend Portland vets 100% thank you to Lucy and team for all her care and support at such a sad time.

My gsd Loki went to Portland east Grinstead for surgery, he was neutered and had a gastropexy done. All the staff were lovely and understood my boys needs. I was updated when he went into surgery and that he had settled on the ward before hand. I had updates throughout his surgery they all were very understanding that I was worried about him. After recovery I got a lovely picture and a call to say he was doing well and a pick up time was arranged. The nurse was lovely who explained everything I had to do with him for his aftercare she also came to help my 51kg gsd into the car with me so he wasn’t jumping up. Honestly was the best experiences I’ve had. I’ve had follow up calls and messages to make sure he’s recovering ok too. Highly recommend Portland vets.
